A Mountain Rest Shelter at Trolltunga
For hikers, the journey is often as important as the destination.
Located in Norway’s spectacular mountain landscape near Trolltunga, this 6M Wood-Tone Honeycomb Glass Dome was designed as a comfortable stop along the hiking route — offering shelter, warmth and panoramic views without disconnecting visitors from the surrounding scenery.
Trolltunga is one of Norway’s most iconic natural landmarks, with a demanding high-mountain trail where practical resting facilities can make the journey more comfortable.

A Practical Shelter with Panoramic Views
The customer wanted a functional shelter that would provide protection from changing outdoor conditions while preserving the mountain experience.
Instead of a conventional building, they selected a 6M Honeycomb Glass Dome. Its compact footprint and panoramic glazing create an enclosed space where hikers can take a break, warm up and enjoy the views before continuing their journey.

Adaptable to Mountain Terrain
Remote mountain locations can present challenges for conventional construction. The dome’s modular structure allows components to be transported and assembled on site, making it easier to develop functional spaces in locations where traditional building methods may be more difficult to implement.
This flexibility also allows the same structural concept to be adapted for different site conditions and project requirements.
Wood-Tone Design Inspired by Nature
A natural wood-tone exterior was chosen to complement the surrounding landscape.
The warm finish creates a softer visual presence against the mountains, while the expansive glazing keeps the interior bright and maintains a direct connection with the outdoors.
The result is a shelter that provides modern functionality while fitting naturally into its environment.

Configured for Four-Season Use
Mountain weather can change rapidly, particularly at higher elevations. To support year-round operation, the dome can be equipped with insulated glazing, thermal insulation, ventilation and climate-control systems according to project requirements.
During warmer months, panoramic glazing opens the space to the surrounding scenery. In colder conditions, the enclosed and insulated interior provides a more comfortable environment for visitors.

Beyond a Traditional Rest Shelter
This project demonstrates how a compact modular structure can add value to remote tourism and outdoor destinations.
The same concept can be adapted for mountain rest stops, nature retreats, visitor facilities, remote accommodations and other projects that require a balance between environmental integration, visitor comfort and flexible installation.

A Glass Dome Built for the Mountains
This Norwegian project brings together a compact footprint, modular construction, natural wood-tone design and panoramic glazing to create a functional space tailored to its mountain setting.
Rather than competing with the landscape, the dome is designed to frame it — giving visitors a place to pause while keeping the surrounding mountains at the center of the experience.

Your Terrain. Your Concept. Our Dome.
